for Montreal Rampage
Vocalist, Composer & Performer
A seasoned performer, Tyra has flaunted for audiences on both local and international stages. In recent years, she has performed locally in Ottawa, ON, as well as in Amsterdam, NL, before resettling in Montreal, QC. Having performed for over fifteen years as a classical soloist, and three years as a professional singer, she is at home on stage. Her focus as of late has been to develop and record her original compositions, which blend soulful vocals and storytelling.
Tyra is a continuously evolving musician, with great enthusiasm for experimentation. Classically trained in piano, flute, and voice, she has a solid grounding in music fundamentals. After teaching herself a few guitar chords, she enrolled in lessons and began to writing songs in her early teens. She has built upon this training by opening herself up to new styles of music, new techniques and through collaboration with musicians across genres.
Her versatility and discipline has enabled her to extend her training to incorporate jazz, blues, rock, electronic, and folk influences into her original work and improvisations. In addition to her original compositions, Tyra works on the local Montreal scene, revisiting standards and expanding her repertoire, developing her technique including improvisation in the oral tradition of jazz music.
